Hamilton's Healing Hearts

In early 2021, Danielle Miller opened her heart and home to animals in need, working with local agencies and rescue organizations as a foster resource. What started as a simple desire to help soon grew into something much bigger — a dream to create a safe haven for pets who had nowhere else to turn. That dream became Hamilton’s Healing Hearts.

In early 2024, Maddie Bushey joined the journey and quickly became an essential part of the rescue’s story. With her unwavering love for animals and shared belief in giving every pet a second chance, Maddie brought new energy, compassion, and strength to the mission.

Today, Hamilton’s Healing Hearts continues to grow through the dedication of Danielle, Maddie, and the community that supports them. Together, they work to provide shelter, care, and love for every animal who comes through their doors — especially seniors and special needs pets who need that extra bit of healing and hope.

  2. Safe & Loving Shelter – Abandoned and surrendered pets deserve a warm, secure environment while they await their forever homes.
  3. The Power of Giving – Your contribution can inspire others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of kindness and compassion.

Danielle Miller

Founder / Director

I relocated to North Carolina from New Hampshire in 2010 after a house fire tragically destroyed my home and animal rescue. My passion for animals has been a lifelong calling, deeply rooted in my family’s legacy of animal advocacy. Growing up, I spent countless days on my grandmother’s farm, where I developed a profound love for animals through horseback riding and caring for farm animals. In addition to my hands-on experience, I have earned a certification in Animal Search and Rescue (ASAR) and played an active role in assisting Pender County Animal Shelter during Hurricane Florence. I am also certified in canine and feline CPR, ensuring I can provide critical care when needed. Outside of my work with animals, I enjoy traveling, camping, and spending quality time with my family.

Maddie Bushey

President

Maddie became a volunteer for HHH in early 2024 . Maddie brings years of fostering experience and transportation experience for animals going to and from veterinary appointments. Not only does she have a massive love for animals she also has a passion for creating digital content for the rescue! Maddie runs our Facebook and Instagram page along with all advertising content including brochures, business cards, and any HHH merch that we sell for fundraisers. We are so happy to have Maddie as a valued team member.

Wendy shares her home with three beloved rescue dogs and is committed to making a difference wherever she can. We are thrilled to have her as part of our team!

Chris Caison

Volunteer and Maintenance/Farm

Chris has been a dedicated supporter of Hamilton’s Healing Hearts for several years. In August, he generously purchased and installed new insulation in the kennel ceiling. After spending time working at the rescue, he felt compelled to do even more. Today, Chris plays a vital role in maintaining both the farm and kennel, while also assisting with adoption events and animal transportation. Originally from Arkansas, Chris is a U.S. Navy veteran who enlisted in 2000 and was honorably discharged in 2005. He now works full-time with Veteran Affairs in Onslow County. At home, he shares his life with a beloved dog and cat. In his free time, he enjoys hunting and fishing in southeastern North Carolina. We are incredibly grateful to have Chris as part of our team!
